On Monday, Bonham Independent School District’s athletic department released its summer workout schedule, which is free for all student-athletes entering grades seven through 12.

The program will be held from June 8 through July 31 with different workouts taking place at both the weight room and football field. From beginning to end, the camp runs each week Monday through Friday, but no workouts will be held July 6 through 11 along with July 20 or 21.

High School boys will participate daily from 8 to 9 a.m., while high school girls will go from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Male and female high school athletes participating in sport-specific skills should receive times of workouts from their respective head coaches. Junior High students will phase into the program beginning in Week 5 from July 13 through 17 to allow time for the students to receive physicals.

Furthermore, the school district announced the need for physicals for new athletes on its Facebook page, “Incoming 7th graders and students in grades 8-12 who are new to athletics must have a physical on file before they can begin.”

Bonham ISD also stated that COVID-19 precautions will be in place for the safety of all students and coaches. The guidelines include daily screenings and temperature checks for athletes, frequent equipment cleaning (before, during and after workouts) and available hand sanitizer stations. Workouts will be set up to ensure proper spacing, and sharing school-supplied water, attempting to join a workout late and access to locker facilities are all prohibited. Any student or staff member who shows potential COVID-19 symptoms or lives with someone who does may be asked to stay home.

Athletes are required to bring their own water bottles, towels, cleats and gym shoes each day.
