A Bonham ISD student athletic has tested positive for coronavirus, Bonham ISD Superintendent Kelly Trompler confirmed Friday evening.

“With the health and safety of our students, staff and community members being paramount, I am reaching out to share with you that this afternoon, June 12, 2020, the District learned that a Bonham ISD student athlete has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus,” said Trompler.

Trompler said the student athlete only attended summer strength and conditioning for one day this week.

“While the student remains asymptomatic, the student athlete will be isolating at home and will not attend summer strength and conditioning for a minimum of 14 days and until several return criteria are met.”

Student athletes and coaches who had direct contact with the student at summer strength and conditioning have been notified.

Student athletes and coaches who may have been in contact with the student during summer strength and conditioning will also be self-isolating in accordance with CDC guidelines for the next 14 days in an abundance of caution.

Student athletes will be notified by their coach if they are not to attend summer strength and conditioning and the anticipated return date.

“To be clear, no other students are currently exhibiting any symptoms of the COVID-19 virus.  The District will continue to monitor matters and provide updates as circumstances dictate.  It is imperative that we be sensitive and understanding of those that have been personally affected by this virus, and that we all continue to work together to ensure our community remains safe and healthy,” Trompler said.
