After more than a week without a new COVID-19 case reported in Fannin County, the COVID-19 case count raised from 17 to 23 cases.
“On April 30, the Texas Department State Health Services (DSHS) reported three cases to the Fannin County Health Authority. Also on that day, for the first time in Fannin County, a positive test was returned in a resident of a Bonham long term care facility (address pending) and a test was also found positive in a person incarcerated in a Fannin County facility (for the first time),” said Fannin County Health Authority James Froelich.
Froelich said the sixth positive case was reported on Friday in a male who lives in Telephone.
Two of the new cases reported by DSHS are reported at a single address in the Trenton area, and one new case is in the Ivanhoe area. The prisoner that was found to be positive is in the Fannin County Jail is in isolation as are several other inmates who had possible exposure to that inmate.
“At least one of our citizens, a 76-year-old with underlying medical conditions, is still in the hospital after three weeks but is stable and expected to recover fully. No other cases of hospitalization have been reported. Unfortunately, the State does not mention the medical conditions of new people that they report. As reported so far Fannin County continues to show no fatalities.”
Froelich further said that due to a robust response by the administration at the Sam Rayburn Memorial VA Medical Center, no new cases have been reported there this week.
“A probable COVID-19 case in a nursing home resident was reported to the County Health Authority, and the four residents in the same suite were quarantined until the SARS-2 virus test was returned. That test came back on Thursday and was negative. The facility will continue to monitor those residents.”
Governor Greg Abbott sent the Texas National Guard to Bonham on April 29 to perform State-supported SARS testing on symptomatic patients. Texas National Guard personnel collected samples from 27 individuals at a temporary drive-through at the Fannin County Multipurpose Complex. At least one of those tests has been reported positive in a resident of Telephone, Texas.
“As this increase in positive test shows, the virus is still active in the community. When more and more businesses and activities are resumed, please be smart: wash often, continue to practice social distancing and wear your masks when in public,” said Froelich.
