During the entire month of August, young locals can compete in two different ways to earn prizes and stay active in spite of the spread of COVID-19. The Lamar County Head Heart Hands and Health Organization organized two competitions for youth to participate in. The first competition is a virtual fishing contest and the second is a scavenger hunt, which any nearby 4-H member is eligible to compete in.
The Lamar County 4-H Youth Virtual Fishing Tournament will begin Saturday and run through the entire month. The object of the competition is to catch the largest fish — Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, or Catfish — and take a photo with it including a ruler to show the size of the fish. After that, the photo must be submitted by Tuesday, Sept. 1 via email to laura.graves@ag.tamu. The organization said that small prizes will be available for the biggest fish caught in each category.
The other competition organized by Lamar County 4-H is the Paris TX 4-H Scavenger Hunt. This competition begins Saturday and will also run the whole month of August, and small prizes will be available Tuesday, Sept. 1 after the scavenger hunt concludes. The contest requires those who enter to take a photo of themselves at different historical sites throughout Paris, which include the Red River Valley Veteran’s Memorial, Paris Eiffel Tower, Culbertson Fountain, and the Trail de Paris among other locations. In addition to this, bonus questions about each local landmark are worth extra points for correct answers. Competitors must send photos and answers to laura.graves@ag.tamu before Sept. 1.
