Troy Hudson receives honor as Vice Flotilla Commander with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Have you met our Fannin County Emergency Management Coordinator Troy Hudson? Did you know he serves in his off duty time as a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary? Troy has served in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary for the past 3 years working in Marine Safety/Environmental Protection, Aids to Navigation, Vessel Safety Inspections and Emergency Management. Troy is also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) for District 8 Costal Region. IMATs are a deployable Specialized Forces (DSF) unit, the CG-IMAT’s mission statement is to assist Operational Commanders to prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the effects of all risks and all hazard incidents and events.
What truly is the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary? Established by Congress in 1939 under title 14, §§ 23 of the U.S. Code, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is Semper Paratus(Always Ready). The Auxiliary operates in safety and security patrols, search and rescue, mass casualty or disasters, pollution response & patrols, homeland security, recreational boating safety, commercial fishing and vessel exams, and recruit for all services in the Coast Guard. The Auxiliary has units in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam. Under the direct authority of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security via the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Auxiliary’s internally operating levels are broken down into four organizational levels: Flotilla, Division, District and National.
Troy is also a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Gulf War specializing in underwater mine warfare.
