Officials have confirmed a second positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Fannin County.

Authorities stated the second case was contracted from out-of-state and was suspected by the patient upon their return home to Fannin County.

“Because of increased vigilance on the part of the infected individual, immediate home quarantine was instituted,” said Dr. James Froelich. “The only local contact the person has was with two family members who also placed themselves in home confinement and quarantine. The three remain in self-imposed quarantine at present.”

According to reports, the infected person, who is younger than 30, had a fairly rough time with flu-like symptoms, cough, and moderate breathing difficulty. They have since greatly improved.

Froelich said the two family member has had no fever and remain symptom-free and are doing well.

“Because of the wise, informed and unselfish conduct of this Fannin County family, exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 by the people of the county has been minimized. The family has agreed to allow the information in the communique to be released to the public. As the County Health Authority, I would like to thank the patient and the family for allowing me to inform the public of the situation so that face and reason can rule over conjecture and rumor,” said Froelich.

He further stated that SARS-CoV-2 is a very dangerous virus. Given the opportunity, it will infect an untold number of Texans.

“Prudent, smart and simple personal health in combination with social distancing will minimize the spread of the virus and stop the death that can accompany it.”

Authorities advised residents to not congregate in groups larger than 10 people and protect others from your coughs and sneezes.
