At the request of the Fannin County Sheriff Mark Johnson, Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting after a man who pulled a gun on deputies was shot and incapacitated.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Fannin County deputies responded to a disturbance call at a residence on North Main Street in Savoy, Texas.

“While at the residence, deputies encountered Shane Essary, who became uncooperative and combative toward the deputies,” Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Frank Deater.

According to reports, the deputies deployed tasers on Essary, which had little to no impact.

“Essary was able to run back into the house and obtained a firearm. He was given repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon, however, he refused all such commands and subsequently discharged the weapon. One deputy discharged his duty weapon, striking Essary, which incapacitated Essary.”

Deater said deputies immediately administered first aid on Essary until paramedic’s arrived on the scene.

At the request of the Fannin County Sheriff, the Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the officer-involved Shooting.
