The Drug Enforcement Agency recently charged the Los Angeles Angels’ former director of communications, Eric Kay, with illegally giving drugs to the Angels’ late pitcher Tyler Skaggs. Skaggs died in a hotel room in Southlake ahead of a divisional series in Arlington against the Texas Rangers at the age of 27 years.

Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room on July 1, 2019, by local police following a report of an unconscious man in a Southlake, Texas hotel room. After he was pronounced dead on the scene, Tarrant County medical examiners concluded that Skaggs choked on his own vomit, which was mixed with alcohol and both fentanyl and oxycodone.

Kay was recently arrested in Fort Worth and he made his first in federal court on Friday on charges of illegal possession with intent to distribute a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl, a controlled substance.

According to an affidavit from a criminal complaint, Skaggs sent a text message to Kay on June 30 asking him to deliver pills to his hotel room. If convicted, Kay could face up to 20 years in prison.
