Mitsubishi, a Japanese multinational automotive company based in Tokyo, Japan, recalled almost 223,000 vehicles in Canada and 22 cold-weather states in America.

The company said the cars were recalled because the suspension parts are susceptible to rust and detachment, which can lead to drivers losing control of the automobile.

The company’s recall covers the 2008-2013 Outlander, the 2011 to 2016 Outlander Sport, the 2008 to 2010 Lancer and the 2010 Lancer Sportback in the United States.

Government documents state that salt used to clear roads in cold conditions can cause a cross-member part to corrode, which can cause front arms to fall off and make maneuvering up and down any bumps on roads dangerous.

The recall is set to begin July 14, where Mitsubishi dealers will inspect any suspensions and either replace the cross members or apply a sealant.
