United States President Donald Trump signed several executive orders this past Friday in an attempt to lower prices of prescription medications such as insulin.

By signing the executive orders, discounts on insulin and EpiPens will be required, and it will aim to expedite a proposal to import prescription drugs from Canada and other nations to increase the supply on hand for pharmacies, wholesalers, and states across the country. President Trump said he hopes the action he took will eliminate the “middlemen” in future drug purchases moving forward. Trump said he will meet with drug company executives at the White House on Tuesday to work on more affordable medical solutions for American citizens.

He said if both sides cannot agree to a solution, then an executive order will be enacted to ensure Medicare plans pay the lowest price on the international pharmaceutical market. Trump has focused time and energy towards health care policy as the 2020 presidential election against Democratic candidate Joe Biden nears, and 71 percent of citizens polled by CBS earlier this month said health care is a “major” factor in deciding who to cast their votes for.
