The Texas School for the Deaf celebrated history Friday night after the team took home the school’s first football state title.

The team took the title in a 63-32 win against Veritas Academy of Austin.

“I’d have to say, it’s the best feeling ever. Nothing can compare to that, nothing equals that feeling,” Texas School for the Deaf football player Kylar Sycoli told Fox News.

Head Coach John Moore Jr. said they knew several players wouldn’t return to the field come fall, so they had made a “really difficult decision” to drop their 11-man team to six.

One football player said they, “don’t just play for TSD, we also play for the deaf community.”

“I expect that our success here will be an inspiration to other deaf schools across the nation,” Moore told Fox News.

Moore said football is a way students connect with one another.

“They’re in school all day, but when they come here, they feel a sense of brotherhood or belonging,” he said.

Texas School for the Deaf is ranked 7-3, while Veritas Academy is 9-1.
