Dear LISD Parents and Community Members,

With the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in our state and in the North Texas area, along with following health and safety recommendations to decrease the chances of spreading the virus in our community, Leonard ISD will be closed through Friday, April 3. Prior to this date, LISD will reassess the current health information data and determine if schools will reopen on Monday, April 6. All campuses and district facilities will continue to be closed during this time, and all scheduled activities and events are postponed until further notice. We understand this health concern is causing a hardship on our families, but LISD must do all we can to protect the health and well-being of our students and staff.

While the district is closed, our students and staff will transition to instruction-based learning at home beginning Monday, March 23. LISD is in the process of contacting all parents either by phone call or e-mail to complete a survey questionnaire which will allow us to get more information on any current technology/wifi already available in the home, as well as questions regarding food and school supply needs during this time of closure. This information will allow us to provide a learning plan that may include online educational learning and/or printed curriculum packets or both in some cases to serve our students.

During the week beginning March 23, teachers will be communicating with families and students via e-mail or phone regarding their class and the required lessons for students. Please check your preferred e-mail that you have on file with the school regularly for further information regarding this communication from your child’s teacher(s). High school students should also develop a routine of checking their e-mail on a regular basis to receive messages and feedback from teachers about assignments. More information will be provided to you by Monday, March 23, about how to receive your child’s assignments for the week as well as options on how to return the work to school.

LISD also encourages our students and parents to utilize TexQuest and e-Books resources that can be found on the Leonard ISD website by selecting Departments, then Library Media Services, then TexQuest. These are supplemental resources that can be used for enrichment and review covering a wide selection of databases. The district will be sending a School Messenger e-mail with additional information for this resource. Also, to access e-Books, please e-mail mccarleyp@leonardisd.net with student name and campus name to be sent your student’s username and password for this service.

The Leonard ISD Food Services Department will continue to offer free grab-and-go lunches during this time on weekdays between 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the drop-off area at the elementary school cafeteria for all students. If you have specific questions regarding this, please contact Sherry Cooper at tigerdiner@leonardisd.net.

Leonard ISD appreciates your patience and support as we transition to this method of instruction while school is closed. Please contact your child’s teacher(s) or campus principal via e-mail when questions arise during this time. Teachers and staff will be completing the majority of their work from home during this time frame, but will be responding to e-mail questions on a regular basis on weekdays. Thank you for working with Leonard ISD as we strive to do our very best for our kids each day.

Sincerely,
Brad Maxwell
Leonard ISD Superintendent
