Paris’ COVID-19 antibody testing drive-thru facility scheduled to open this week has been canceled.

Paris Mayor Steve Clifford said due to the ‘massive outbreak’ at a nursing home, Paris Healthcare Center, all resources will be focused on containing the outbreak.

“This requires all of the resources of the health department and the medical community in order to attempt to contain this outbreak. We no longer have the luxury of performing our planned drive through testing facility, and the testing scheduled for next week has been canceled. I know that many of you were planning on getting tested next week, but we obviously must focus all of our resources on containing this outbreak.”

He further stated, “This virus has seemed distant to most people in our community. It was happening elsewhere, but we in Paris really had not had any significant problem with it. We all figured that everything was overstated and overblown. Many decided that they didn’t even need to wear masks. Now we know that many people who were infected with the virus and had no symptoms have been in numerous public places throughout our community. And most of the people in our community are still not wearing masks. Many people may have been exposed.”

Clifford, again, encouraged residents to wear a mask whenever in an enclosed public place such as a grocery store, etc. and that they must practice social distancing and wash their hands.

“If everyone cooperates, it will make it easier for us to protect our community from this virus.”
