As Monday rapidly approaches, Class 1A to 4A schools’ sports teams across the state are gearing up to begin their seasons, and the UIL schedule begins with football and volleyball. With that, Dodd City Independent School District released its varsity volleyball schedule, and the season will open at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 at home against CHESS. The Lady Hornets will hit the road to take on the Detroit Lady Eagles at 6 p.m. the following Friday.
Dodd City will play a total of seven games in its pre-district schedule. Then, the Lady Hornets will open up district play, which features a total of 14 games. Dodd City will play seven district opponents — Collinsville, Sam Rayburn, Savoy, Tioga, Tom Bean, Trenton, and Wolfe City — two times apiece in this portion of the schedule. The Lady Hornets will face each district foe once both at home and on the road.
The Lady Hornets are coached by Alex Stephenson, who also heads the successful Lady Hornets’ varsity basketball program. Dodd City claimed the district title and reached the area round of the postseason in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
