Bethlehem Baptist Church is planning a peaceful protest for its community at 6 p.m. Sunday. The peaceful protest will begin with a march, which will start at the church, located at 1415 Franklin Avenue.

The participants’ march will end at the Bonham Police Department, located at 301 E. 5th Street.

Once all peaceful protestors arrive at the police department, there will be a prayer, a small worship session, and messages from a few guest speakers.

“We greet you as the community of faith in this county and its surrounding cities,” the church said in a statement on its Facebook page. “It is our intention and heartfelt desire to engage and encourage each of you to join us as we pursue the changes our community needs and citizens desire. The national outcry by citizens of color and specifically African Americans who have felt the brunt of racism and injustice for far too long is heartbreaking. We are not exempt, as racism is a part of this community as well. It is not our goal to create more division or strife but rather we desire a movement of change, a movement of action, a movement of unity of all colors, race, and creeds.”

The church said it is encouraged for those participating to wear masks due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19.
