As 2021 comes to a close, Google released its annual ‘Year In Search’ report, showing the number one search terms for the year.
“This was a year of rebuilding for so many. The intense grief and loneliness felt around the world, as well as the pain of ongoing inequity, have become lasting reminders of how much we need each other, not just for comfort and support, but to face challenges that require our collective action to solve. This year’s Google Search trends reveal the various ways—big and small, tender, awkward, inspiring, and hopeful—that the world searched, more than ever before, for healing,” said Google online.
The word doomscrolling was also searched more than ever globally.
In January, searches for united states capitol spiked above searches for covid-19 vaccine globally.
Blackouts across the globe caused searches for power outage to increase 5,000% worldwide in February.
This March, the Meghan and Harry Interview became the most searched interview in Google Trends history globally.
Worldwide, arun jaitley stadium searches hit an all-time high in April.
miss universe mexico winners searches spiked +3,450% in May worldwide.
when is juneteenth was searched more than ever in the U.S. for the second year in a row.
fire and flood were global breakout searches at the same time in July.
hurricane ida was the top trending search topic in the U.S. this August.
U.S.-based searches for job interview surpassed pre-pandemic levels this September.
In California, oil spill volunteer was a breakout search this October.
