Hyundai added about 471,000 to its already growing recall list and informed owners to park the vehicles outside until the repairs are made to an electrical short in a computer that could potentially start a fire.
The recall entails Hyundai Tucson SUVs 2016 to 2018 and 2020 to 2021. The electrical short that the company is concerned about could lead to fire comes from an antilock brake system computer which can potentially malfunction. Hyundai is not recalling its Tucscons with the Smart Cruise Control.
Though the company has been made aware of a dozen fires caused by this malfunction, it said there have been no reports of injuries related to these recalls.
Those who own these recalled SUVs will be notified by Hyundai in late February to take the vehicles to a deal to replace the computer’s fuse.
