Hyundai has recalled nearly 130,000 vehicles due to potential engine failures.
This recall covers specific 2012 Santa Fe SUVs, Sonata Hybrid cars between 2011 to 2013 and 2016, and 2015 and 2016 Veloster cars.
According to Hyundai, the recall addresses an issue with the connecting rod bearings wear down, causing the engines to fail. Accordingly, the damaged rode could damage the engine block, causing it to stall. Plus, the potential for oil leaking onto hot surfaces could lead to a fire risk.
Vehicle owners will be notified near Jan. 22, in which dealers will replace the engine if bearings are damaged. They will then install a knock sensor system to help monitor the engines.
The automaker alongside Kia was recently fined $137 million due to moving too slow in recalling more than 1 million vehicles due to the same hazard.
