Authorities have confirmed there are NO ACTIVE coronavirus cases in Lamar County despite a fake text message (and Snapchat message) making the rounds.

“The Paris-Lamar County Public Health District has not received any reports of confirmed or suspect cases of COVID19 in Lamar County. They are actively monitoring the population for risk factors associated with infections and are working with the Department of State Health Services and Centers of Disease Control and Prevention to identify any potential cases that may arrive in Lamar County. At this time there are no locally transmitted cases in the state of Texas and the public will be notified should the situation changes,” said Gina Prestridge, Executive Director and Mark Lueke, Epidemiologist.

Chief of Police Bob Hundley said the State Health Department has been holding daily conference calls with emergency management, health care, EMS, law enforcement and other stake holders to keep authorities up-to-date.

He said, “Social media is important to provide information quickly, but false info can be spread just as quickly. This is not the time for cute witty and scary posts, if you are a consumer of social media, don’t share until you know it’s fact.”
