The Savoy Police Department is clarifying details relating to the fatal shooting on July 19 and asking the public to “stop spreading false information.”
“The investigation is being conducted thoroughly, completely and professionally.” said the department in a press release. “The criminal justice system in Fannin County will determine the appropriate actions to be taken pending a complete investigation. We ask the people stop spreading false information on social media out of respect for the family of the deceased and to maintain the integrity of the investigation.”
Around 10 p.m. on July 19, Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received multiple calls regarding a shooting in a parking lot in the 200 block of E Hayes in Savoy.
“It was reported that one adult male was shot and the shooter (suspect), another adult male, was still on scene. Deputies arrived on the scene within minute and detained the shooter.”
Deputies attempted life saving measures on the victim and Texas Vital Care paramedics also responded to the scene and attempted life saving measures without success.
Savoy PD responded as soon as officers were notified and took lead on the investigation with the assistance of the Texas Rangers.
The victim was declared deceased by KP Smithey at the scene.
“The suspect and multiple witnesses were interviewed, and security camera footage was reviewed as well. After the interviews were completed, the suspect was not arrested at that moment, pending further investigation. At this time the investigation was still ongoing.”
On July 22, Savoy PD obtained two arrest warrants for the suspect for Unlawful Carry of a Weapon and Possession of Dangerous Drugs.
“The suspect was located near Bonham, Texas and arrested. He is currently in the Fannin County Jail.”
