U.S. Marshals, together with the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office, are continuing the search for three inmates who are still on the run after escaping from the McCurtain County Jail on Feb. 3.
Four inmates originally escaped, however, 28-year old Kolby Russell Watson was taken into custody without incident in Hochatown, OK, on Saturday.
Still at large is 20-year old Justin Hughes, 21-year old Donnie Middlebrooks and 23-year old Jerome Rutherford Jr.
Authorities on Wednesday warned the public that anyone who talks to, makes contact with or assists the escapees in any way, will be arrested immediately.
Six people, whose names have not been released, were arrested on Tuesday and have been charged with harboring a fugitive and/or obstruction of justice, according to KSLA News 12 who spoke with Sheriff Kevin Clardy.
A McCurtain County jailer and a contractor’s helper were also arrested with the Sheriff stating the contractor’s helper is Watson’s brother.
Clardy also told KSLA News 12 that a contractor was performing work on a second-floor jail shower when he believes that the helper purposefully left a tool behind to help the four inmates escape through the shower ceiling.
Officials said Rutherford has gang connections in Oklahoma City, so leads there are being investigated as well.
Up to a $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the capture of the three inmates.
