Lady Cardinals now look to fill two girls head coaching positions

Erin Lopez, who has spent the past three seasons coaching sports at Class 1A Savoy High School, recently accepted a job at Class 3A Howe to head the high school volleyball program.

Lopez led the girls basketball program the entire time she coached at Savoy and took over the volleyball program as well during the 2019 season after the late head coach Kristi Tallon lost her battle with cancer last April.

Savoy ISD athletic director Clay Wilson said there is a possibility that one coach may handle both positions Lopez had for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.

Lopez is a graduate of Van Alstyne High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and she helped lead the Savoy volleyball team to the area round of the playoffs last year to keep the school’s five-year playoff streak in volleyball alive.

Howe has not qualified for the postseason in volleyball since it was a regional quarterfinalist in 2008, and the Lady Bulldogs will be matched up with Bells, Gunter, Pottsboro, Whitewright, Blue Ridge, Bonham and Leonard for at least the next two years in District 11-3A competition.
