On Tuesday, Sam Rayburn ISD recognized their ‘Teachers of the Year’ and ‘Employee of the Year’ for 2019/2020 school year.

“Although we didn’t have the classrooms full of kids to storm into and surprise them in front of their students, we still managed to track them down,” said the school online.

Jodi Amlin was named ‘Elementary Teacher of the Year’  with her peers and co-workers stating she can experience the toughest challenges and keep a smile on her face.

“Her patience, caring attitude, and ability to connect with students was seen as just a few of her admirable traits. Everyone that nominated her, which included many, even used the words “sweetest person I know.”

Stena Brewer was named ‘Secondary Teacher of the Year’ and was called a “model teacher” in a small district.

“She wears several hats from English teacher to UIL One-Act Play, Family Consumer Science, and more. She is a teacher leader that strives for excellence and keeps academics top priority. We do not know how she does all she does for the students and staff in SRISD.”

And last but not least, Kin Stewart was named ‘Employee of the Year’ who many described as someone who pitches in wherever needed.

“Coaches, especially, commented on how their transportation issues were also solved in last-minute situations and Kin Stewart would often drive buses himself to games and field trips when plans fell through. Others commented on his sense of humor and dry wit!”

“We are very fortunate to have all three of these individuals in SRISD.”

The teachers will go on and represent Sam Rayburn ISD in the Region 10 Teacher of the Year program, where winners eventually advance to the state competition out of the various educational service center regions across Texas.

“Good luck Mrs. Amlin and Mrs. Brewer! You are both outstanding representations of the teacher quality in our school district.”
