Meals on Wheels Texoma announced its plans to re-open congregate dining facilities on June 1st, 2021. The organization was forced to shut down on-site dining programs in March of 2020 due to the growing pandemic.
“I am excited to announce that we will resume our congregate meal program on Tuesday, June 1st,” said Greg Pittman, CEO for Meals on Wheels Texoma in a written statement. “I am proud of our program’s performance over the past 15 months. While other programs like ours around the state were forced to reduce frequency of delivery, we did not miss a single meal throughout the pandemic. This is a testament to our 650 unpaid volunteers, our staff, and our generous supporters who never batted an eye and who were always happy to help.”
Meals on Wheels Texoma is the senior nutrition provider for Cooke, Fannin and Grayson County providing a host of services including home-delivered and congregate meals, emergency food, and other supportive services designed to support elders¡¦ ability to live independently. The congregate meal program is offered at senior centers throughout the tri-county region, including:
Grayson County – Bells, Denison, Pottsboro, Sherman, Van Alstyne, Whitewright and Whitesboro
Fannin County – Bonham Senior Center
Cooke County = Gainesville, Callisburg, Valley View and Muenster
The congregate meal program provides socialization, a free lunch, and activities (which vary by location) for anyone age 60 or over. There are no eligibility requirements apart from the requirement that the no-cost lunch is for those 60 and over. Reservations are strongly encouraged. Lunch is served between 11:30 a.m. and noon.
The home-delivered meal program is available for homebound elderly and disabled and requires certain eligibility requirements be met. Participants of the program report feeling more secure living on their own knowing that someone will be checking in on them daily. These daily deliveries provide a few moments of socialization ¡V often the volunteer delivering their meal being the only human interaction they will have ¡V and allow volunteers to perform a quick safety a wellness check. It is this safety and wellness check, according to the organization, that makes such a difference.
“Thank you for delivering our meals for the past two years,” wrote one of Meals on Wheels’ clients. “My husband was about to be moved to an assisted living facility when a friend told us about Meals on Wheels. Thanks to your faithful assistance I was able to extend my husband’s time at home by two years. What a blessing! The meals were well-planned and made fresh and delivered hot. But the volunteers are even more amazing. Thank you again for the meals and for the sweet people who so kindly delivered them. God bless you for taking care of others.”

Founded in 1980, Tri-County Senior Nutrition Project, Inc. DBA Meals on Wheels Texoma has grown to serve Cooke, Fannin, and Grayson Counties. Last year the organization provided nearly 450,000 meals throughout the pandemic to the area’s most vulnerable senior citizens and disabled persons.
