One person was arrested in Caddo Mills on animal cruelty charges after police located five sheep hog-tied in the trunk of a Honda Civic – one sheep was dead.
Over the weekend, Caddo Mills Police Department – with the help from Hunt County Sheriff’s Department Animal Cruelty Investigator with the SPCA of Texas – seized and took custody of four live and one dead sheep from a traffic stop on FM 36.
According to Caddo Mills PD, the suspect had hog-tied and confined the animals in the trunk of a Honda Civic, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.
“We will not tolerate animal cruelty in the City of Caddo Mills and will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law,” said Chief Kimbre Collier. “I want to give a special thank you (to) the SPCA of Texas and the Hunt County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance.”
The SPCA of Texas will hold the animals in protective custody until a hearing occurs to decide the disposition of the animals.
The suspect was arrested on-site for Cruelty to Livestock Animals (Torture, a state jail felony) for causing the animals unreasonable pain and suffering.
