James E. Froelich, County Health Authority, reported three more coronavirus cases in Fannin County on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 26.

“Fannin County experienced a relatively quiet week on the COVID-19 front this week with only three new cases reported; one 29-year-old female, one 37-year-old male, and one 78-year-old male,” said Froelich.

The first coronavirus related death was also reported this week.

As accurately as can be stated, the present situation in Fannin County is this:

There have been a total of 26 confirmed COVID-19 cases reported as of May 8, 2020. The SARS-2 positive individuals include 12 males and 14 females. The males include the first incarcerated person with proven COVID-19, a 55-year-old inmate in the Fannin County Jail; the first resident of a county nursing home, a 77-year-old veteran at the Clyde Cosper State Veterans Home in Bonham, and the first Fannin County death attributed to COVID-19. This occurred in a 78-year-old Ladonia area resident. Very little information is known about the Ladonia-area fatality but he was not seen, tested, or treated at the TMC-Bonham Hospital.

As best as is known of the 26 COVID-19 cases: at least 14 of the reported people have fully recovered, 1 is in a local hospital, 3 are ill at home, 1 is ill and in quarantine at Clyde Cosper Nursing Home and 1 is ill and in quarantine at Fannin County Jail. Five individuals on the list are in unknown condition. One 78-year-old male has died as mentioned above.

Free testing was done on 27 people by the Texas State Guard last Wednesday, April 29, 2020. Of those 27 tested, only one was positive. That was on a 64-year-old male from the Telephone, Texas area. Most of the people tested in the temporary Fannin County drive-through testing station were symptomatic. Some individuals tested were not residents of Fannin County.

An additional drive-through testing station will be again established tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, at the Fannin County Multi-purpose Complex, 700 FM 87, Bonham, Texas 75418 starting at 10am through 6pm.  Appointments are required and can be done online at TXCovidTest.org or by calling 512-883-2400.

Unfortunately, we did experience our first fatality this week. These are the statistics for Fannin County as compiled by the Fannin County Health Authority for the week ending May 8, 2020. Please note that the number of “recovered” is an estimate [When the State reports a confirmed case they do not give their telephone numbers, names or present medical status]. Much medical information has been collected locally in addition to the official State report and the Department of State Health Services encourages that. Unfortunately, there will always be some “unknowns” in the report.
