The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection to the shooting and assault of a Fannin County couple in 2017.

“On Friday, July 21, 2017, Gina Jones and Johnny Jones arrived at their home near Dodd City, when immediately three suspects stormed the house,” said Sheriff Mark Johnson during a press conference Tuesday morning.

According to reports, Gina was seriously assaulted and her husband Johnny was shot in the head with a large caliber handgun.

“Johnny miraculously survived the shooting after being in a coma and hospitalized for 90 days, however, he was left with permanent brain injuries and is incapacitated.,” said Johnson.

Now almost three years later, three suspects have been identified after Fannin County Detectives broke the case last week.

“We obtained arrest warrants and on Wednesday, 23-year old Joshua Briggs of Honey Grove was arrested in Bonham,” said Johnson. “A short time later 42-year old Charles Wade Briggs of Honey Groce was found in Dodd City, he then fled from Deputies on foot into a pasture and with the help of Texas Department of Criminal Justice ‘Search Dogs’ Mr. Briggs was quickly located hiding in a pasture and was arrested.”

The third suspect, Dallas Shane Briggs, subsequently died last year from an unrelated motorcycle accident.

Both suspects were placed in the Fannin County Detention Center on $150,000 dollar bonds each.

As of Tuesday afternoon, both have posted bail.

“Our detectives never stopped working the case, we kept following the evidence and we are happy that we can finally bring some justice to the Jones family. We like to thank The Texas Rangers and the TDCJ search dogs again for the assistance in this case.”
