A change.org petition calling on Congress to support U.S. families with additional $2,000 monthly economic stimulus payments is nearing its goal of 3 million signatures.
Denver restaurant owner Stephanie Bonin and her husband started the petition last year stating, “supplying Americans with monthly support until they can get back on their feet can save our communities from financial ruin.”
in the petition, Bonin called for regular checks for the duration of the crisis pointing out that many business owners and the self-employed can’t claim unemployment and for those who can, the maximum payments are not enough for most people to continue paying their bills.
“We need immediate checks and recurring payments so that we can keep our heads above water. Congress needs to make sure that we won’t be left financially ruined for doing our part to keep the country healthy.”
On Friday, the petition had over 2,690,193 signatures.
