In a press release sent to parents on Wednesday, Bonham ISD Superintendent Kelly Trompler announced all campuses will close Jan. 20 & 21 due to COVID-19.
“We an unbelievable couple of weeks since returning from the Christmas break – this new COVID variant along with the flu, stomach virus and other illnesses have presented the BISD administration team with some challenges and a tough decision to make,” said Trompler.
She continued, “For the last five school days, student and staff attendance has steadily declined. We are sending more students home each day than are able to return to school under the current TEA protocols.”
Trompler said with this knowledge and no evidence the trend will make a major change in the next two days, Bonham ISD will be closed Thursday, Jan. 20 and Friday, Jan. 21.
Students and staff will return Monday, Jan. 24.
“My expectation for these next four days is that we slow the spread and infect fewer people in the District by eliminating the environment in which approximately 2,000 people are around each other for extended periods of time.”
Information about extra-curricular activities will be communicated by sponsors and coaches while the district is closed.
If you have any questions, please email your child’s campus principal.
“Thank you for your understanding as we take this precaution to keep your children safe and healthy.”
