Commerce Police Department and Hospice Plus made the dreams of a 96-year-old woman come true when the police department booked her in for “an old warrant for public intoxication in 1949.”
Billie Joe Lynch, a 96-year-old hospice patient, had on her bucket list “to get arrested one day.”
“Unfortunately for her (she was never arrested) as (she) wouldn’t, she is as sweet and good of a person as they come,” said Jessica Luckett with Hospice Plus.
After she heard about this bucket list item, Luckett placed a call to Commerce PD in hopes of making this dream come true.
Lynch said she loved the process.
“They were all very nice, and I loved every minute of it, because I always wanted to be put in jail,” she said. “They were all very, very nice, and I want to thank them for being so nice. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
When Luckett heard about Lynch’s bucket-list item, she put in a call to Commerce PD, “because ‘what if.’
“And they were all for it,” Luckett said.
Lt. Marcus Cantera and Officer Garrett Bolton answered the call of service – “who were absolutely amazing, there couldn’t have been two better for the job.”
The duo served her a warrant, arrested and transported her to the police station, where they then booked her and placed her into a holding cell, “all while (Lynch) saying ‘THIS IS GREAT” throughout the process.”
Lynch’s daughter Gay Lemonds said her mother was beyond thrilled.
“It was a wonderful experience, mother absolutely loved it,” Lemonds said. “The police were so good, and were so kind. It just added to the thrill when they said, ‘we’re gonna have to handcuff you, and don’t you try to get away because we have a Tazer.’ The way they went on, it made it so real for her. She really did love it.”
Everyone involved – from Lynch to police officers – had a blast.
“They made it so wonderful,” Lemonds said. “When they took her handcuffs off to do the fingerprinting, he told her, ‘now don’t you flirt with me.’ Mom started giggling. She had a blast.
“They made her day, and they were wonderful and deserve some kind of thank you.”
