A local movement is hoping Bonham residents change the lights on their front porches to show support for police officers and firefighters.

Light Up Our Community was started by Prosper ISD Police Officer Jerome Edwards, a Bonham resident, and Councilman Timothy La Vergne II. They say it shows solidarity with officers and firefighters for doing what can be a “thankless job.”

“It’s important that we as a community continue to show our support and gratitude to the men and women that protect and serve us in Bonham,” said La Vergne.

Organizers are calling on residents to replace outdoor lights with red and blue bulbs, starting Oct. 1 through Oct. 15.

“It’s a dangerous job and these men and women have taken the oath to protect and serve our community.”
