Graduations are taking on a new look this year as some colleges and high schools are opting for varied outdoor ceremonies; some are going virtual. One thing stays the same across the board; that is, seniors will be celebrated for their scholastic achievements.
Ector ISD announced plans to go ahead with a graduation ceremony for their graduating class setting a date for May 29.
The festivities will begin with a Senior Parade starting at 6 p.m. at the Ector Ballfield and ending at Ector City Park. The parade route will be posted online for those wanting to participate.
The ceremony will be held at Ector City Park beginning at 6:45 p.m.
Seniors will be provided with a chair and will be allowed to invite six attendees to the ceremony. Each family will have a designated area to sit once they arrive. Each attendee must provide their own chair.
“We will follow all safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of everyone involved,” said the school.
If inclement weather, the parade, and the ceremony will be postponed until Saturday, May 30, at 9 a.m.
“The Board of Trustees and Mr. Bohannon would like to congratulate all the seniors of 2020. Ector ISD appreciates everyone’s support and patience.”
Dodd City ISD has also announced their graduation plans, which will be held on Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m.
“Per TEA guidelines, we will have a drive-in style ceremony in the gym parking lot. The ceremony will be live-streamed on Facebook,” said the school

Honey Grove High School will have an outdoor graduation ceremony at Warrior Stadium on May 29, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Details of this event will be released within the coming days by the school.
Sam Rayburn ISD has scheduled their graduation and scholarship ceremony for Monday, June 1, in the SRISD front parking lot.
If inclement weather arrives, the ceremony will be moved to Tuesday, June 2, at 7:00 p.m.
Seniors may invite up to six guests maximum. Families must check-in at the entry table by 6:45 p.m. and arrive as a group. Assigned seating will be given per family with 6 ft apart social distancing between families. You must bring your own chairs.
Seniors will be able to see each other walk, receive diplomas, cheer each other on, and have scholarships presented that evening. Seniors should arrive in cap and gown.
Parking for the event will be available at the back of school around the bus loop as well as overflow parking at the ball fields.
The graduation video will still be posted online for those not able to attend.
Trenton ISD announced their graduation ceremony for Friday, May 29, at Tiger Stadium, starting at 7 p.m.
Family members must have a ticket to enter the facility, and seating will be assigned. More specific information will be sent out to graduates in the coming days.
Paris Junior College graduates will be recognized in a virtual commencement ceremony on May 22, 2020. All details of the graduation can be obtained on their website www.parisjc.edu/graduation.
After reviewing the graduation guidelines put out by the Texas Education Agency, Bonham ISD announced plans to move forward with an in-person, outdoor graduation ceremony for their Class of 2020.
“I am excited to announce that after reviewing the in-person, outdoor graduation ceremony guidance put out by the Texas Education Agency late this afternoon, we can appropriately honor our Class of 2020 graduates while keeping everyone safe,” said Kelly Trompler. “Bonham ISD will be able to hold an in-person, outdoor graduation ceremony for the 2020 graduates and their families.”
To comply with the guidelines, Trompler said the graduation date would have to be pushed to June 1 or later, and specific procedural guidelines will have to be followed.
“Our goal within the next 2-3 days is to set the graduation date, finalize our specific procedures, and disseminate that information to our 2020 Seniors and their families.”
