VaccineFinder: New tool aims to show where COVID vaccine shots are available

Thanks to a new tool backed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, finding where COVID-19 vaccines are available has become a little easier.

VaccineFinder is a free, online service where users can search for locations that offer vaccinations.

“We work with partners such as clinics, pharmacies, and health departments to provide accurate and up-to-date information about vaccination services,” said VaccineFinder online.

VaccineFinder is operated by epidemiologists and software developers at Boston Children’s Hospital.

In most states, the initial website launch is limited to just pharmacy and drugstore chains that get vaccines directly from the federal government.

“We’re trying to create a trusted site and bring some order to all this chaos and confusion around availability,” John Brownstein, a Boston Children’s Hospital researcher who runs VaccineFinder.org, told the New York Times.

While the public can’t book a vaccine appointment through the website, they can find all the information they need about where and how to book an appointment with each provider.

Previous to providing information on COVID vaccines, VaccineFinder.org shared information on flu and routine vaccination services. That information is currently suspended.
