Registration is now open for the 11th Annual Great Days of Service in Bonham.
There are several service projects to choose from, including:
Clean-up Projects – bring your work gloves and tools and help clean up at local cemeteries or downtown Bonham. Pick your location when you register. Locations include Willow Wild Cemetery, Gates Hill Cemetery, Bailey Inglish Cemetery and Downtown Bonham. Please bring work gloves, trash bags, rakes, weedeaters, etc. if you can.
Food Drive – sort canned goods to be given to several local non-profits that feed hungry people.
Fannin County Children’s Center – cleaning projects inside and out at this local nonprofit that serves abused and neglected children. Inside cleaning projects include deep cleaning, vacuuming, disinfecting and more. Outside projects include pulling weeds, mowing, edging, raking, etc. Please bring work gloves, rakes, weedeaters, shovels, etc. if you can.
Fannin Pregnancy Center – outdoor projects for this local nonprofit that serves women who are pregnant to include tree trimming, mowing, edging, etc. Please bring work gloves, tree trimmers, chain saws, mowers, weedeaters, rakes, etc. if you can.
Parks Clean-up – pick up trash and clean up at the city parks, including Powder Creek Playground, Catron and Simpson Parks. Volunteers will spend time at all three parks. Please bring work gloves, trash bags, etc. if you can.
Recycling Project for the Literacy Council – help unload donated items from cars and trucks; items will be recycled and raise funds for the Fannin Literacy Council, which provides free GED classes to adults in Fannin County. Please bring work gloves if you can.
“Volunteers will be encouraged to sign up in advance online,” said event organizers. “This will help check-in on Saturday morning go more quickly and allow GDS leadership to plan accordingly. It will also help us know how many pancakes to make.”
Some projects will be limited in the number of people who can work at that site. Once the maximum number has been reached, the registration form will be updated so that no more can sign up for that project. Masks are strongly encouraged.
All volunteers are asked to come to First Baptist Fellowship Hall starting at 8:00 am to check-in, enjoy a pancake breakfast, listen to announcements, get directions and meet their site leader. All service projects will start at about 9:00 am on Saturday, Oct 10. and generally will be done by noon.
Young people under the age of 17 can participate as long as they have a responsible adult who will stay with them.
