Preliminary reports from the National Weather Service in Ft. Worth indicates as many as three tornadoes touched down in Fannin County on Friday night.

Officials said the most severe is rated an EF2 with winds up to 120 mph. The tornadoes started just west of Hwy 78 and north of FM 1396 and traveled east for approximately 6 miles. The path was 1/4 to 1/3 mile wide.

An EF-2 is described as causing considerable damage with wind speeds of 111 – 135 mph. Roofs torn off from well-constructed houses; foundations of frame homes shifted; mobile homes completely destroyed; large trees snapped or uprooted; light-object missiles generated; cars lifted off ground.

The other two tornadoes did not cause any damage.

County authorities said as many as 12 structures sustained significant damage and there was a report of one injury that wasn’t life-threatening.

Additional analysis of reports and pictures sent in from across the county will be completed by the NWS this week.
